InkMentors launches hyperrealism and chrome effect tattoo course

The online course platform InkMentors Tattoo Academy recently launched a new seminar on hyperrealism. The course is mentored by José Manoel, a Brazilian tattoo artist known for his work in portraits, black and grey, and color realism.

In the course, José explains how to achieve detailed textures, teaching students how to reach a level of hyperrealism.

In the tattoo industry, let's say, realism aims to faithfully reproduce images as they appear in real life, with accurate proportions, shading, and detail. Hyperrealism pushes this technique further, focusing on a high level of detail, contrast, and depth, creating tattoos that look like high definition photographs on the skin. Essentially, realism looks real, while hyperrealism looks exactly like a photograph.

The course also covers how to apply the chrome effect. The metallic reflections are created using only white ink, applied over areas where black ink has already been placed with specific dilutions. This technique gives the tattoo a new perspective on the skin, allowing the viewer to perceive a metallic shine.

“It’s not just about applying a stencil and working on top of it. I once heard a piece of advice that I never forgot: ‘Do your best with the conditions you have, while you don’t yet have better conditions to do even better.’ That’s exactly what I hope to offer in this course. I will give my best with the conditions and experience I have today, after 15 years of experience”, said José.
“All of this will be taught in the easiest and most simplified way, so that students can truly understand and apply this technique in their daily practice and careers, leading to an improved portfolio and increasingly better work,” he added.

During the seminar, José details the equipment he uses to apply the technique, including the machine, needles, voltage, stroke, inks, and dilutions. He explains how to create a design using AI and make it suitable for the shine that the technique requires. The classes cover how to apply the stencil, where to start, and how to apply the chrome effect during the tattoo process.

The course provides a PDF with timestamps for each section. The program also includes an image reference pack that students can use for inspiration to tattoo in the same style after completing the course.
